Country in NYC–The Queens County Fair

Who says New York City doesn’t have some country in the mix? I attended the annual Queens Country Fair yesterday and had a blast. Although I really didn’t expect to see chickens (or goats or cows or rabbits).

And music of all sorts:

The prize-winning entries for vegetables, flowers, and baked goods were fantastic but I suffered hunger pangs walking past the edibles. (I fixed that later by munching on an organic tomato from the vegetable stand although the usual fare of funnel cakes, cotton candy, fish and chips and a wonderful pickle stand were among the many offerings.)

And of course, the rides:

It was hard to believe I was inside city limits. Finally, footsore but happy, I headed home.

In Floral Park. The farm has been there since 1697! I can’t believe I didn’t know it existed. http://queensfarm.org
